Save static and interactive ChatGPT visualizations
Understand the difference between SVG diagrams, HTML widgets and a PDF snapshot.
Visualizations are not all the same kind of file. A static diagram is an image or a set of drawing instructions; an interactive block can include HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Saving the conversation text alone does not preserve all of that work.
Use ZIP for visualization sources
Choose a full chat ZIP or export the whole Project. Current versions store supported visualization artifacts under a conversation’s visualizations folder and links them from the text and JSON exports.
Static diagrams
Supported static diagram metadata can be reconstructed as SVG without executing the conversation’s generated JavaScript. The original metadata is also retained. Unsupported geometry is marked as source-only, so the export does not imply that every drawing was successfully reconstructed.
Interactive blocks
Supported app blocks are saved as their original HTML source and a launcher. After extracting the ZIP, open the launcher to inspect the artifact. A self-contained visualization may work on its own. One that calls a remote library, host API or ChatGPT-only service may not work offline or outside its original environment.
PDF stays static
PDF cannot keep HTML interaction alive. Use it for a static conversation record and keep the ZIP when the source matters. Treat exported interactive HTML like other executable web content: inspect it before opening if you do not trust its source.
Check the report
Review visualizations/manifest.json for exported artifacts and source-only results. Keeping source code is useful even when a widget needs adaptation, but it is not a guarantee of identical replay.
